About Me

Hello, I’m Anne Marie. Proud mother. Adoring grandmother. Sister. Friend. Learner. Explorer. Writer.

For more than 40 years, I worked as a newspaper reporter and a public relations professional. I explored new places and met remarkable people. Then I sat down and wrote about them.

Always, there were stories to tell. Good ones. But they weren’t mine.

Today, they are.

My first novel, Canary, was inspired by a family story I heard as a child and never forgot. It is set in early twentieth-century Detroit among Sicilian immigrants lured to America by Henry Ford’s promise of opportunity. It will be available winter 2026.

Meanwhile, download a free copy of my family’s favorite Sicilian recipes. Some are featured in Canary.

Elsewhere on this site, I reflect on where I’ve been and why — from Africa to Sicily, from Guatemala to Portugal and to my very own backyard, where it all comes together growing tomatoes and watching my grandkids run through the sprinkler.

A Detroit native, I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I’m grateful to be close to my daughters and grandchildren, along with a wide circle of family and lifelong friends.
