Roar

Roar

There are few words to describe the warning roar of an adult male lion about to hunt. So I won’t even try.

Instead, I will tell you what’s going on in each picture and video below. And if you have words to describe what you hear, please share:

Earlier in the day, we found them taking a late afternoon nap. Elandri stopped the jeep and we sat and waited for them to wake up.

Eventually they did. After a few show-offy yawns, they stood and started down the road. Elandri turned the jeep around and we followed.

These are the two male lions I saw the first day here. Kalahari Jr. and Zamula. They are the two elderly gentlemen being pushed out of the pride by two younger males.

It’s hard to imagine these fellows being intimidated by anyone. Younger males or not.

It was an incredible end to another incredible day at Syafunda Endangered Species Reserve in South Africa.

I’ve been here two weeks and can’t wait to see what the next two will bring.
